About the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program
The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program is an education and certification program that helps organizations and businesses protect our environment while enhancing their bottom line. The "plan-do- check-act" approach of the program offers information and guidance to implement an environmental management plan that improves efficiency, conserves resources, and promotes conservation efforts. Audubon International awards certification to publicly recognize and reward the environmental achievements and leadership of program members.
Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program
What is the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program?
The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program (ACSP) is an education and certification program that helps organizations and businesses protect our environment while enhancing their bottom line. The “plan-do-check-act” approach of the ACSP mirrors that of other environmental management systems, but also includes certification as an incentive and reward for positive environmental actions and results.
How Does it Work?
The ACSP assists organizations and businesses in taking stock of its environmental resources and any potential liabilities, and then develops a plan that fits its unique setting, staff, budget, and time. Organizations and businesses of all sizes, budgets, locations, and characteristics are welcome to participate in this program, and may include resorts, corporate parks, community colleges, cemeteries, churches, retail stores, manufacturing facilities, and parks, among others.
Audubon International provides information to help personnel with five key environmental components:
• Site Assessment and Environmental Planning
• Wildlife and Habitat Management
• Water
• Resource Management
• Outreach and Education
Certification
Certification provides an efficient way to work directly with members regarding their unique property while also providing motivation to take action on the key environmental components. Designation as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary is awarded upon meeting environmental management standards in each area.
Achieving certification demonstrates an organization’s leadership, commitment, and high standards of environmental management. To be designated, personnel develop and implement an environmental management plan and document the results. Recertification is required every three years to maintain the Certified Sanctuary designation.
