It is not often that I issue a warning such as this, but something happened to me, and had a major affect on my Excellent credit Score, and I believe others should be aware of what Quicken Loans is doing.

If I Can Help Just One Person From This Happening To Them, I will Be Very Happy!

First of all, Quicken Loans is my mortgage lender. We refinanced our mortgage 5 years ago, I was happy with the process, and have been happy with them ever since.

While I never specifically recommended Quicken Loans to customers because I do not have enough experience with them, if anyone me asked about them, I told them I had a great experience with them, and I WAS generally a fan of Quicken Loans.

The middle of April this year, I started getting solicitation calls from Quicken Loans saying “Hi, it’s X from Quicken Loans, Give me a Call Back at xxx-xxx-xxxx, I Have an Update on your mortgage”.

Since I was not planning on refinancing at this time, I did not answer. The voicemails were left at least daily, then they became somewhat annoying, and really harassing.

So, after a while, I answered the call from Quicken Loans. I was asked if I was interested in refinancing, and I said “NO”. He told me he would at least look at what they are offering, and see if I would be interested in saving any money. He asked permission to pull my credit report and I adamantly said NO! He said he would “put something together” for me and send it to me anyway which I never received.

I have had health issues in the past which required setting up payment plans on literally hundreds of thousands of dollars I medical bills

Between the medical bills, and being a viciim of identity theft in the past, I am ver proud of my excellent credit. I am fanatical about my credit, and I check my credit, through a number of different ways, on a nearly daily basis. I always know what my score is, and I am very proud of it, and all the hard work I have put in to maintain my excellent credit. In short, my credit score is extremely important to me.

Even though I said I was not interested, and even though I never received the promised information, the daily harassing calls continued, and continued.

After another week, I answered a Quicken Loans call. I told them, again, that I was not interested, and that I never received what the first harasser promised. He (his name was Scott) said he would put me on hold and look into it.

Well, What Scott did was pull my credit report without my permission! He came back on the phone and said although we have perfect credit, we are probably better off the way we are since we do not have much mortgage left….which He Already Knew With a Credit Report Since We Are Customers.

My assumption was that Quicken loans had done a soft pull of credit to determine which of their customers had excellent credit, and that is why these harassing calls started, and why Scott knew our credit scores.

The next day, LifeLock, Experian, and all the alerts we had setup started going off saying Quicken Loans has checked our credit (without our permission)!

Again, I’ve told you how protective I am of my credit score, I started to panic because when someone pulls your credit, it decreases your credit score. and I wanted the “inquiry” removed from my credit report. I called Quicken Loans and sat on hold for a very long time, and I sat and waited for an online “chat” while I was on hold. The person on the other end of the chat said they were sorry this has happened, and they would have someone look into it.

The next day, I had someone from Quicken Loans connected with me via text message. She said she looked into my issue, that Quicken Loans would NOT be removing their “inquiry” from my credit report, and she said that an inquiry does not have much of an affect on your credit score.

I almost couldn’t believe it! Here is this company that I am a fan of, and a customer, who is telling me they do not think it is a big deal that they accessed our credit reports without permission, because it has a “small” negative affect on my credit score?

She said she would have a “Supervisor” contact me because I was not happy. The “Supervisor” connected with me within a couple days, and also told me he did not think our credit reports were pulled without my permission. What?

I literally argued with him for quite some time. He continually talked over me, and rarely allowed me to finish a sentence, but his stance was still that they were not going to remove the inquiry from my credit report. Actually, the next day he said they would remove the inquiry from my spouse’s credit report because we were not both on the phone call, but they would need to write a letter, submit it to him, he would write a similar letter, and submit the letter to the credit bureau.

I sit here completely appalled with Quicken Loans, a company I used to like! They harass me for weeks, upon weeks, then they pull our credit reports without permission to do so, then they will not correct it even though it negatively affects our credit score.

It is now 22 days since Quicken Loans accessed my credit report without permission, and my credit score had decreased by 23 points since then! I do not call that Small Affect! Besides the Quicken Loans Credit inquiry, the only thing that has changes has been decreases in balances.

Do Not Trust Quicken Loans!

Why would Anyone Trust Quicken Loans? Why Would Anyone Continue to Be a Quicken Loans Customer? Unfortunately, in my case it comes down to economics, not principle.

We are close enough to paying off our mortgage, that it would cost too much to refinance with another company now, just to pay off Quicken Loans.
